Dear Mr Lance,

I am writing to you as the CEO of ConocoPhilips, the third largest oil and gas corporation in the US, about its current seismic survey in the sea off lutruwita/Tasmania's King Island to to look for oil and gas.

This healthy marine environment is fundamental to King Island's way of life and we want to keep it that way.

The International Energy Agency has said "No new oil and natural gas fields are needed in the net zero pathway".

The harms and risks of seismic blasting - including the fossil fuel production that could result - just aren't worth it.

New scientific evidence has proven seismic testing impacts on a range of invertebrate species that are fundamentally important to Tasmania's Fishing Industry. These include Southern Rock Lobster, Scallops and Giant Crabs.

Further Studies have concluded that seismic testing can kill zooplankton which help underpin the entire food-web.  At this stage the Tasmanian public do not believe ConocoPhillips have shown an acceptable level of due dilligence into the investigation of flow on impacts from this survey.

There are a variety of studies that conclude Marine Parks contribute largely to fish stocks behind their zoning. Although mining is permitted within the Zeehan Marine Park the Tasmanian public are largely concerned about the impacts of this survey on the health of the marine park. In addition the further impacts this will have on catch rates for a range of species in the area.

We are writing to tell you that

> ConocoPhilips has no social licence to operate
> There is an urgent need to leave fossil fuels in the ground.

And, ultimately, that ConocoPhilips should halt its oil and gas exploration activities in Bass Straight.
